SKOPE is an iconic kiwi brand. For more than half a century, its heaters were an everyday sight in homes around the country, providing warmth, comfort, and familiarity.

These days, rather than bringing the heat, they’re all about bringing the cool. SKOPE’s commercial refrigerators are cooler, quieter, built-to-last, and really, really ridiculously good-looking. With a legacy and products like that, we’ve been proud to partner with SKOPE as website developer, and creative brand collaborator. Because what’s cooler than being cool?

Showing Users the Way

SKOPE came to us because they wanted to make their website more user-friendly for their dealers and resellers. It was difficult to search for particular products, and to share information easily with potential buyers. We listened!

We knew that potential buyers might not know what specific fridge they wanted—but they would know what they wanted a fridge to do.

So we designed a “Find a Product” feature which takes them through a series of questions in a straightforward and elegant design. They’re not lost amidst tick-boxes or difficult filters: the product finder is clear throughout, and lets them edit any step without having to start over.

But the site needed to do more than just showcase products for sale. It needed spec documents, it needed installation guides, it needed user manuals, it needed CAD drawings: everything a consultant, architect, designer, or reseller could need. And these had to be laid out in an equally user-friendly way.

That was our challenge, and one we rose to meet. The front page and navigation lay out all the various paths clearly, with helpful copy and visual cues throughout. No matter what kind of resource you’re looking for, it’s a pleasure to find—the same pleasure and quality you can expect from a SKOPE product.

User-Friendly For Users, User-Friendly For SKOPE

The website had to be easy for its visitors. But it also had to be easy for SKOPE staff to keep up-to-date. SKOPE has a database of more than 160 products, and they wanted a way those could be uploaded all-at-once.

Our developers put on their thinking caps, and came up with a clever wee script which links their internal product database with the website. Upload a spreadsheet, and all the products are live on the site. And whenever they want to change a detail, all they have to do is re-upload that spreadsheet. The site updates automatically. That saves a lot of time, particularly if they need to make changes across a lot of products.

And all those extra resources, such as CAD drawings and spec sheets? The website pulls them straight up from SKOPE’s existing internal library. Easy.

This Is Just The Beginning

The new website launched in early 2018, and is already proving a success. The difference is clear right from the front page, with gorgeous imagery and case studies inspiring users to imagine what a SKOPE product would be like in their business.

But this is just the beginning. Next up we’ll be working with SKOPE to update their dealer and reseller portal. We’ll be making it just as user-friendly, so they can easily access information for and show off products to prospective buyers, right off their mobile device.

We’re enormously proud of what we’ve achieved with SKOPE. It’s a project in which almost every person in our New Zealand team had a hand, and the result shows.

Ice Adventure

While we got stuck in on the website, SKOPE was looking to launch a new line of ice makers from Spanish manufacturer ITV.

Now, there’s a few ice makers available locally in Australasia—but none anywhere as good as these. They create a better breed of ice, with all the benefits that people know from SKOPE: efficiency, durability, and a guarantee that if anything does go wrong, it’ll be fixed.

Still, a lot of people figure “ice is ice”, right? So SKOPE needed a creative launch campaign that would sell the benefits these ice makers could bring to hotels, restaurants, and bars.

SKOPE asked for something “edgy, simple, single-minded”. That’s what we delivered in collateral with the kind of cool, modern vibe that hospitality owners would want associated with their business.

SKOPE launched the new range at Milan hospitality conference, HostMilano. Armed with the stunning designs, as well as an arsenal of technical pamphlets, they were ready to wow the world. And we backed them up with a bit of Google AdWords magic, so anyone who searched would find exactly the range of ice makers they need.

The quality of work we achieve with SKOPE is only possible because of how receptive and open their team is. They appreciate our creative and design perspective. They want an amazing outcome, and they know what that takes.

It’s an honour to put a modern, fresh spin on this long-lasting kiwi brand. And it’s a partnership we look forward to growing.
